Overview

The “Remember my Card" feature allows you to save your card number so that you do not have to re-enter it every time you want to sign-on using the same computer and the same internet browser. It also allows you to nickname your card so that it will be difficult for others to view or capture your saved card numbers.

Frequently Asked Questions

When you select the “Remember my Card" option, your browser will create a small file called a “cookie”. This cookie will store your card number (in encrypted format) and an optional nickname on your computer's hard drive. You will still be required to enter your password every time you want to sign-on.
In order to take advantage of this feature your browser settings must be set to “accept cookies”. This feature is specific to the particular browser that you have installed on your computer.

A “cookie” is a piece of data that a web server creates when you visit a web site. This data is typically encoded information about how and when you use a site. It is placed on your PC in the form of a small text file. If you use the “Remember my Card" feature, a cookie will be created on your computer to store your card number (in encrypted format) and an optional nickname (card description) so that we can recognize it and save you time the next time you want to sign-on to Scotia OnLine.

If you use the "Remember my Card" feature, you also have the option to assign a "Nickname" to your card (e.g., "Sam"). The nickname is a personalized description that will appear alongside your "masked" card number in a dropdown menu on the sign-on.

When you create your card nickname, it:

  • Must be maximum 8 characters in length

  • May contain alphanumeric characters only

Your saved card will appear in a dropdown menu and the cursor prompt will automatically be placed at the "Password" field. Simply enter your password and select the "Enter Scotia OnLine" button.
If there are multiple cards saved, the last card used will appear at the top of the list. Select your card, enter your password and select the "Enter Scotia OnLine" button.

Do not use this feature on publicly shared computers (such as internet cafés, libraries and airports) or on computers that you share with someone who you do not trust.

No. The choice is yours; if you do not want to use the “Remember my Card" feature, do not check the "Remember my Card" box. Sign-on as you normally do, by entering your card number and password.

Yes. Your card number will be encrypted in the cookie and will be masked in a dropdown menu so that no one can read the number. Your password will not be stored and without it, your card cannot be used to access Scotia OnLine. However, for your protection, do not use this feature on publicly shared computers (such as internet cafés, libraries and airports) or on computers that you share with someone who you do not trust.

No, your password is not stored. If you use the “Remember my Card" feature, only your card number and optional nickname are stored. As a security measure, you will always be required to enter your password when signing-on to Scotia OnLine

Yes. If more than one card has been saved, the card last used will appear first on the dropdown menu.

If you have saved your card, you will not need to enter your card number when signing-on to Scotia OnLine using the same computer and internet browser. If you want to use “Remember my Card" with more than one computer (i.e., home vs. work), you must save your card on each computer that you wish to use.
If you have saved your card and it does not appear on the dropdown menu, you may be using a different computer, a different internet browser or you may have unintentionally deleted your cookies in your browser. In this case, you will need to re-save your card.
